Finding elite players on Saturday from those in orange wasn’t easy. You don’t want to say Tennessee football didn’t play well, as it mostly just looked like the Georgia Bulldogs shut down everything the Vols can do, which is why they won 27-13 in a game that wasn’t that close. However, it made it harder to discover those who stood out.

However, as it is with every game but especially one that ends in a two-score loss, there were moments that hinted the Vols could make this one interesting, and quite a few players had a hand in doing that. It’s not the usual suspects in many cases, but it doesn’t mean they didn’t exist.

As we get set to break down those top players from Rocky Top between the hedges at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Ga., Saturday, you’ll notice they geared heavily towards one side of the ball. Yes, some were by default too. Here are the five five Vols from Tennessee football’s loss to Georgia on the road.

These were the best Tennessee football Volunteers players against the Bulldogs.

Big plays count when determining the best players. Bryson Eason actually had the highest PFF grade of anybody who saw action on either side of the ball Saturday. He also came through in a couple huge moments, enough to put him on the list, even if he didn’t leap off the screen or rack up that many tackles in the game.

Eason finished with just one tackle. However, it was a solo tackle that resulted in a tackle for a loss. It came after the Vols had gotten stopped on a fourth down in the fourth quarter and trailed 27-6. With the play, UT was able to force a three-and-out, which kept them in it late.

Then there was Eason’s fumble recovery on the drive before. Jaylen Wright had just fumbled for Tennessee football, and all hope of a comeback seemed lost, but Eason then recovered a fumble to give them what could have been new life at the time. Simply put, Eason’s second-half play could’ve been something if the offense stepped up.
