Tennessee football didn’t drop too far in Week 10 SEC Power Rankings
Lost to Florida Gators 41-24
It’s only getting worse for Jimbo Fisher’s team. In a way, this helps Tennessee football. The Vols compete with the Texas A&M Aggies in terms of the best NIL initiatives, and if the money is similar and it comes down to programs, well, it looks like Josh Heupel is going to have the edge there as long as he stays on Rocky Top.
Anyway, A&M got blown out by the Florida Gators over the weekend, as the bottom has fallen out of the program. They at least had a defense in the early part of the year, but that’s gone too. Now, a bowl berth is all but gone unless they pull off a miracle over the final few weeks of the season.
Given how much this team and fan base seems to have quit on the program, that doesn’t seem likely. Of course, given Fisher’s buyout, nobody is sitting around waiting for a firing either. It’s just a bad situation in every way. The good news for them is they finally get a breather, somewhat.
Up next for this team is a trip to the Auburn Tigers in a game to determine who stays alive in a bid to reach a bowl. Should they win that, they get the UMASS Minutemen at home the next week, so they could reach five wins. Then they somehow have to upset the LSU Tigers in the final game of the regular season, but that game is at home, so anything is possible.
