Tennessee football makes cut for 2023 Georgia DB Tyler Scott
It’s been clear all year that Tennessee football has work to do to improve its secondary for the future. Versatile guys who could fill multiple voids would obviously help given the injuries there this season. Well, the Vols are in the running for such a prospect out of Georgia in the 2023 class.
Tyler Scott, a three-star defensive back across the board, has the Vols in his top seven. Coming out of Pebblebrook High School in Mableton, Ga., which is an Atlanta suburb in Cobb County, Scott stands between 6’1″ and 6’2″ and weighs 185 pounds.
Joining Tennessee football on Scott’s list are the Auburn Tigers, Alabama Crimson Tide, Texas Longhorns, Louisville Cardinals, Michigan Wolverines and USC Trojans. He announced the schools Wednesday night on Twitter.
The versatility factor for Scott is due to his position listings. He is listed as a cornerback on Rivals, On3 and ESPN but a safety on 247Sports. Given his size, cornerback would be more ideal since he can guard the larger wideouts, but obviously, the Vols could use help at either spot.
Struggles at cornerback this year will likely open up competition again next year, and the Vols are losing at least one safety in Trevon Flowers, maybe two depending on what Jaylen McCollough decides to do with his extra year of eligibility. That all may actually be a selling point for somebody like Scott.
Although he’s not highly rated, he could be a steal. After all, there are plenty of high-profile programs targeting him. The good news for the Vols is none of the Georgia schools are in play, so that’s at least one set of schools out of the way.
Currently, Tennessee football has the only 247Sports Crystal Ball projection for Scott with a medium confidence interval and is the Rivals Fan Future Cast favorite by a majority. There is no Rivals Future Cast favorite. On3 has Auburn a majority favorite with the Vols a close second, so they are firmly in play for Scott.
