Six days after their season-opening 75-43 win over the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles, Tennessee basketball is back in action. This time, the Vols head to the middle of the state for an effective home game at a neutral site against a Power Five opponent.

UT, ranked No. 11 in both polls, is heading to the Nashville Predators’ arena to take on the Colorado Buffaloes. This marks the third straight meeting between the schools in three years, with Rocky Top winning in Knoxville two years ago and in Boulder, Colo., last year.

Colorado comes into this game on he heels of a shocking 83-74 loss Friday to the Grambling State Tigers. They beat the UC Riverside Highlanders 82-66 to open the season last Monday. Here is all the information you need for Tennessee basketball’s matchup.

Broadcast information

Heading into this season, Colorado had to replace its three leading scorers from last year’s team that went 21-12 and was eliminated in the first round of the NIT. 12th-year head coach Tad Boyle added junior college transfer J’Vonne Hadley and Yale Bulldogs transfer Jalen Gabbidon to help offset that.

On the other side, the Vols found a new elite scorer in Tyreke Key to join the backcourt threat of Zakai Zeigler, Santiago Vescovi and Josiah-Jordan James. Olivier Nkamhoua’s return, the development of Uros Plavsic and Jonas Aidoo and the addition of five-start Julian Phillips upped their post game as well.

At the same time, they don’t seem to have lost their defensive prowess, a staple of Rick Barnes. All of this along with playing in-state explain why the Vols are such heavy favorites while the over/under isn’t set higher in this one.

Prediction

More than anything, defense is the issue for Colorado, and despite struggling in the first half of their opener, the Vols are extremely dangerous offensively when they get going. That will be on display in this game, so the Over 139.5 is the best play, and it’s also the reason to take Tennessee -16. The score will look something like this: Tennessee 91 Colorado 66.

After this game, Tennessee basketball returns home for a matchup with the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles. Colorado, meanwhile, heads to South Carolina to face the UMASS Minutemen Thursday in the Myrtle Beach Invitational. They will have a game each day from Thursday through Saturday in that event.
