Tennessee football unchanged in Week 11 SEC Power Rankings
Defeated Kentucky Wildcats 24-21
How about those Vanderbilt Commodores! Clark Lea and his team have accomplished all of their goals this year. After going 2-10 their first season under him, one that was disastrous as he was left with absolutely no talent, the goal this year was just improvement. It meant winning some games convincingly, as both wins last year were within a field goal.
Beyond that goal, though, increasing their win totals was clearly a goal, and scoring a Power Five win somewhere, maybe an SEC win, was the goal. They reached both of those with their victory over Kentucky this past weekend, assuring that their win total would at least double over last year.
Maybe Lea does have this program on the rise. Could a bowl game be the hope for next year? You don’t want to get carried away, but this team barely lost to the Missouri Tigers, and if they had won that game, they’d be 5-5 right now only needing to win one of two to reach a bowl.
Unfortunately for them, they close out the season hosting a red-hot Florida Gators team and a Tennessee football team that is stomping everybody. To be fair, Florida did lose to Kentucky at home, so maybe Vandy has a shot in Nashville. Last week’s win may have been the momentum they were hoping for.
