Tennessee football at South Carolina: Five Gamecocks to watch

There’s a reason South Carolina has 11 interceptions on the year. They have elite cornerback play. Darius Rush and Marcellas Dial both deserve praise, as both have two interceptions and six pass deflections on the year. However, Rush has been the bigger star for the most part this year, which is why he gets the nod.
Rush has a forced fumble in addition to those two interceptions. He also has two tackles for a loss and 32 tackles, 22 of which were solo. For his play against the Texas A&M Aggies back in October, Rush actually earned SEC Defensive Player of the Week, so he’s clearly a huge threat.
Given the fact that Cedric Tillman should be ready to return to form this week, Tennessee football will be trying to get him the ball a lot with Rush on him. Rush’s size makes that an intriguing matchup. For what it’s worth, Cam Smith or DQ Smith will likely be the guy guarding Jalin Hyatt, and Dial will guard Ramel Keyton or Bru McCoy.
Hendon Hooker and Tennessee football’s passing attack was slowed due to elite cornerbacks at the Georgia Bulldogs. They now have such a test again. Although the run game should be able to coast, cornerback play is the big test for the Vols’ receivers, and Rush is the main driver of that unit. As a result, he’s the most important player for South Carolina Saturday.
