All hope is lost for the Texas A&M Aggies, and they now have to face the UMASS Minutemen. This is actually a familiar situation for Tennessee football fans, as the Vols faced UMASS just before their program fell apart back in 2017 under Butch Jones. Jimbo Fisher is looking a bit like Jones to A&M fans at this point.
What pride does this team have left to play with? They had the No. 1 recruiting class at the beginning of the year and then collapsed. There’s a ton of concern about what to do given Fisher’s buyout, so by any standard, this program is just a disaster at this point.
On the other side, UMASS is faring no better under Don Brown than they did under Walt Bell. Brown had a successful run with them in FCS play in the mid-2000s, but this is a different animal. Still, it’s his first year, and an upset here would go a long way towards showing he’s building something. He has the chance to pull it off.
Prediction
Knowing they have quit on the season, A&M will play horrendous in this game. It’ll be just like that ugly Tennessee football win against UMASS in 2017. They will win, but they won’t come close to covering. Also, their offense will be horrendous, so take the under.
Texas A&M: 21 UMASS: 3 (UMASS +33.5; Under 47.5)
