An SEC team is hosting a Conference USA team, and we aren’t sure which way this game is going to go. That should give you some insight into how questionable the middle to bottom half of the league is this year. This actually might end up being an entertaining albeit meaningless game.
The Auburn Tigers have gained a bit of juice since firing Bryan Harsin. Under Cadillac Williams, they put up a fight against Mississippi State and beat Texas A&M. Hey, a bowl game is still on the table if they can somehow shock Alabama next week, but before that, they need a quality win in this game, one that won’t be easy to come by.
Led by former Tennessee football offensive coordinator Tyson Helton, the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers are still in the running for the C-USA Championship. This would be a great game to prove their worth on a more national stage, though, and they are catching Auburn at a good time. Such an upset would do wonders for them.
Prediction
Helton beat Auburn at Auburn when he was with Tennessee football in 2018. He has a team with a better record now, and Auburn has a worse record. However, Auburn is playing hard for Williams, and they’re going to play hard again in this one. They’ll make it a defensive game again, so take the under, but they will cover.
Auburn: 27 Western Kentucky: 17 (Auburn -5.5; Under 52.5)
