Tennessee football: Photo gallery from Vols’ 56-0 win at Vanderbilt
It’s always memorable when Tennessee football beats the Vanderbilt Commodores on the road. Vol fans fill Vandy’s home stadium in Nashville and watch their team usually close out the regular season. This time was more special than most, though, as the fans witnessed UT ending quite a few droughts with this one.
The Vols secured their first 10-win season since 2007, their first regular season 10-win season since 2003 and their first high-profile bowl appearance since 1999. Now, they will play a bowl with the prospect of their first 11-win season and top 10 finish since 2001.
Add in the fact that it was a shutout in a 56-0 victory, and Tennessee football gave its fans lots to cheer for. Celebrations were abound in the middle of the state, and it should last into the night since it was a late kickoff. Let’s take a look at some of those moments. Here are photos of the Vols’ blowout win over their in-state rivals.
Of course, the elephant in the room is that this game was a bit of a letdown coming in given how the Vols lost 63-38 to the South Carolina Gamecocks last week, effectively ending their College Football Playoff hopes while Hendon Hooker suffered a season-ending injury. Nothing is going to undo that.
Still, you have to give Josh Heupel’s team credit for responding the way they did after such a heartbreaking Saturday a week ago. They could have rolled over and quit, which would have. been dangerous against a Vandy team on a two-game winning streak trying to reach a bowl.
Instead, Tennessee football came out strong and poured it on with a backup quarterback. That was impressive and speaks to the maturity this team has shown for much of the season. Given the expectations at the start of the year, that definitely made this win worth celebrating. Vol fans understood perspective when attending this one.
