Tennessee Lady Vols preview vs. No. 9 Virginia Tech: Live stream, time, TV, radio
After a week off, the Tennessee Lady Vols are back in action for another game against an elite Power Five opponent Sunday afternoon. UT will be looking to get above .500 for the first time all season and make up for a horrendous start to the year.
Now unranked across the board, Kellie Harper’s team welcomes to the Virginia Tech Hokies to town for the Jimmy V Women’s Classic. Rocky Top’s last outing was a dominating 105-71 win over the Eastern Kentucky Colonels last Sunday, and they are currently on their first two-game winning streak all year.
Virginia Tech, meanwhile, comes into this game undefeated and ranked No. 9 in both polls. They most recently scored a dominating 85-54 win over the Nebraska Cornhuskers last Thursday. Here is all the information you need for the Tennessee Lady Vols’ matchup.

Led by seventh-year head coach Kenny Brooks, Virginia Tech returns three starters and five of eight rotational players from last year’s team that reached its second straight NCAA Tournament. Meanwhile, they added All-ACC Boston College Eagles graduated transfer Taylor Soule and All Big Ten Maryland Terrapins transfer Ashley Owusu.
All of this led to them entering the year with high expectations, ranked No. 13, and they have slowly climbed the polls while living up to them. They already have three Power Five wins, including Nebraska and two SEC schools, the Kentucky Wildcats and Missouri Tigers.
To be fair, Rocky Top has two Power Five wins over the Colorado Buffaloes and Rutgers Scarlet Knights. However, they have lost to the Ohio State Buckeyes, Indiana Hoosiers, UCLA Bruins and Gonzaga Bulldogs. Only against Gonzaga were they within double digits.
As a result, this is a crucial game for UT. Kellie Harper’s team started the year ranked in the top five and is easily the biggest disappointment on the season so far. A win here, though could get them back on track and set for a rough December run against some elite teams.
Up next for the Tennessee Lady Vols is a visit from the Chattanooga Mocs Tuesday. They then face the Wright State Raiders next Sunday and the UCF Knights a week from Wednesday before a trip to the Stanford Cardinal two weeks from today. Virginia Tech, meanwhile, will next begin ACC play with a trip to Boston College Wednesday.
