Tennessee football makes cut for elite 2024 Missouri RB Aneyas Williams
Josh Heupel is going back to the state where he became a household name to find top-notch talent. He now has Tennessee football trending for an elite 2024 prospect out of Missouri who will announce his commitment later this month.
Aneyas Williams, a four-star running back across the board, has the Vols in his top four, according to Tom Loy of GoVols247, and will announce his commitment on Friday, Dec. 16. Joining Rocky Top are the Alabama Crimson Tide, Kentucky Wildcats and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Coming out of Hannibal High School in Marion County, Mo., Williams is 5’10” 195 pounds. He is actually listed as an athlete on 247Sports and an all-purpose back on Rivals. On3 and ESPN have him as a running back.
By 2024, Tennessee football will probably be in the market for another all-purpose back. Jaylen Wright, assuming he stays that long, will be a senior by then, and Dylan Sampson will be a junior. As a result, UT will certainly need more depth there.
Adding to that face is that Rocky Top’s only 2023 commitment at running back is Khalifa Keith, and he’s a power back. That is a more immediate need, but with no all-purpose backs committed for then or 2024, Williams could be a huge pickup.
Heupel’s past experience as offensive coordinator of the Missouri Tigers in 2016 and 2017 has to help him with such recruits. Sure, that was before Williams’ time to a certain degree, but he probably remembers some of the success.
Currently, Notre Dame is the unanimous favorite on the Rivals Future Cast and has both 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions with a medium confidence interval for each. On3 has Notre Dame as the majority favorite as well, and it’s near unanimous.
Mizzou is the majority favorite on the Rivals Fan Future Cast, but they didn’t make the cut. On3 has Kentucky second, Mizzou third and the Nebraska Cornhuskers fourth, but Nebraska didn’t make it either. Simply put, Tennessee football has a chance, but the Vols have an uphill battle.
