Tennessee football Week 13 NFL recap: Defensive players shine
Former Vols who were on a bye week
Cade Mays – OL – Carolina Panthers
Over the past few weeks, Cade Mays has slowly been developing and seeing more action for the Carolina Panthers as a Tennessee football rookie. He now has two more weeks to develop, as they had a bye this past weekend.
Inactive former Vols
Kendal Vickers – DL – Las Vegas Raiders
Matthew Butler and Kendal Vickers had both been inactive for the past near-month. Although Butler returned to action, Vickers was still inactive in the Raiders’ 27-20 win over the Chargers.
Injured former Vols
Derek Barnett – DE -Philadelphia Eagles
A torn ACL in the opener ended Derek Barnett’s season.
Emmanuel Moseley – DB – San Francisco 49ers
Just like Derek Barnett, Emmanuel Moseley is out with a torn ACL he suffered against the Carolina Panthers.
Ja’Wuan James – OL – Baltimore Ravens
In this year’s opener, Ja’Wuan James suffered a torn achilles. That has resulted in his second straight season-ending injury.
Former Vols on practice squads
Alexander Johnson – LB – Seattle Seahawks
John Kelly – RB – Cleveland Browns
Jonathan Kongbo – DE – Denver Broncos
Joshua Dobbs – QB – Detroit Lions
Khalil McKenzie – OL – Baltimore Ravens
Defensive tackles and edge rushers from Tennessee football who don’t even play the majority of snaps had big plays this past weekend. Darrell Taylor, Shy Tuttle and Butler were all in on sacks. In the secondary, Alontae Taylor and Cam Sutton were lockdown corners. Simply put, that was the elite side of the ball for the Vols in Week 13, but Trey Smith was the best player.
