Roster movement surrounding a legendary former Vol made the headlines of Tennessee football players in the NFL leading up to the slate of pro games over the Christmas weekend. Then the weekend came, and quite a few players for Rocky Top stood out.

Our recap in the pros will include stars, those who played significantly, those who saw limited action and those who played on special teams. Let’s start, though, with news of the week along with those who ended up not playing.

The biggest Tennessee football Volunteers star in the pros in recent years had another typical performance this past weekend.

News of the week

Joshua Dobbs signs with Tennessee Titans

It’s the third team of the year for the former Tennessee football quarterback. Joshua Dobbs was released from the Detroit Lions practice squad and signed with the Tennessee Titans. He was also on the active roster for their game against the Houston Texans.

Did not play

Jarrett Guarantano – QB – Denver Broncos

Joshua Dobbs – QB – Tennessee Titans

Two former Vols were on active rosters but didn’t play. However, ineptitude by the starters on those teams may give them a chance. Jarrett Guarantano saw the Los Angeles Rams beat the Denver Broncos 51-14. Joshua Dobbs watched the Houston Texans beat the Titans 19-14.

Inactive former Vols

Matthew Butler – DL – Las Vegas Raiders

After appearing in three straight games, the rookie from Tennessee football was inactive as the Las Vegas Raiders lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers 13-10. Perhaps they could have used him.

Injured former Vols

Derek Barnett – DE -Philadelphia Eagles

A torn ACL in the opener ended Derek Barnett’s season.

Emmanuel Moseley – DB – San Francisco 49ers

Just like Derek Barnett, Emmanuel Moseley is out with a torn ACL he suffered against the Carolina Panthers.

Ja’Wuan James – OL – Baltimore Ravens

In this year’s opener, Ja’Wuan James suffered a torn achilles. That has resulted in his second straight season-ending injury.

Former Vols on practice squads

Micah Abernathy – DB – Green Bay Packers

Alexander Johnson – LB – Seattle Seahawks

John Kelly – RB – Cleveland Browns

Jonathan Kongbo – DE – Denver Broncos

Khalil McKenzie – OL – Baltimore Ravens

Kendal Vickers – DL – Buffalo Bills
