Tennessee Basketball: Recap of Vols’ 77-56 dominant win at LSU
By Blake Wyman
Tennessee basketball has rebounded extraordinarily well after suffering their first home loss in over 2 years against Kentucky. Since falling to the Wildcats, the Vols have been rolling and showing the country why they are one of the best teams in college basketball.
The momentum from the game earlier this week against Mississippi State carried along with them down to Baton Rouge this weekend. The Volunteers destroyed the LSU Tigers yesterday and easily were able to cover the 10-point spread.
Santiago Vescovi and Tyreke Key made their return in this game after missing the previous game due to injury and illness. The return of these two key players was a big boost in morale in both the locker room and on the court. Vescovi played well against the Tigers and shot 2-of-7 from behind the arc. Key was an even bigger factor coming off of the bench and shot 2-of-5 from 3-point land, 10 points, and 7 rebounds.
However, while these two certainly helped the Volunteers in their win, the main reason for their success came from Zakai Zeigler and Josiah-Jordan James.
Zeigler has been dominating recently and has completely changed his game around after a pretty bad first half against Mississippi State. Zeigler posted a 12-point 10-assist double-double in the win on Saturday and has been carrying the Vols on his shoulders recently. On top of his tremendous offense, his defense is what makes him one of the best, if not the best, point guard in the entire NCAA.
Josiah-Jordan James has been dealing with injuries all year, but he is starting to finally look like himself. James had a season-high 22 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals in a dominant performance against the Tigers.
Tennessee basketball comes home for their next game against the Georgia Bulldogs on Wednesday at 7 pm ET.
