March Madness is upon us, here’s everything you need to know about Selection Sunday, and how the Tournament works for the Men’s and Women’s basketball teams.

In just over a month, the madness will begin, which is the time of year that College basketball fans have been long awaiting.

When is Selection Sunday for the Men’s NCAA Tournament?

Selection Sunday is one of the hallmark events of the tournament. This is the time when fans gather around the TV to see where their school gets seeded, and all of the possible outcomes to win a championship. Selection Sunday for the 2023 NCAA Men’s March Madness Basketball Tournament is Sunday, March 12, right after Conference tournaments conclude. The field of 68 teams is announced, along with seeding, locations, and arenas. Network and time are TBD for this special, but continue to check back here for updates.

When is Selection Sunday for the Women’s NCAA Tournament?

The Selection Sunday for The 2023 NCAA Women’s Basketball March Madness Basketball Tournament will be revealed during the Selection Show at 8 p.m. ET on Sunday, March 12 on ESPN. Unlike the Men’s Tournament, this special has already been decided, so be sure to tune in at 8 p.m. for the unveiling bracket for this year’s tournament.

How Many Schools are in the Tournament?

The Tournament is broken down equally into four different sections of the bracket. There are 16 teams in each section, totaling 68 total teams. Out of the 68 teams that qualify for the NCAA tournament, 32 of them are given automatic bids because they won their conference tournament.

Which conference champions get an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament?

Here are the 32 conferences that are given automatic bids to the tournament:

ACC, American, American East, Atlantic 10, Atlantic Sun, Big 12, Big East, Big Sky, Big South, Big Ten, CAA, Conference USA, Horizon League, Ivy League, MAAC, MAC, MEAC, Missouri Valley, Mountain West, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Pac-12, Patriot League, SEC, SoCon, Southland, Summit League, Sun Belt, SWAC, WAC, WCC

How many rounds are in March Madness?

There are only 6 rounds in the Tournament, so, for a team to win the whole thing, all they have to do is string together 6 consecutive wins, but that’s a little harder said than done. The field starts at 64 teams, then 32, 16, 8, 4, and finally 2.
