At last, Tennessee baseball finally got back to its old self. The Vols dominated UC San Diego in their third game of the season by a score of 7-0.

The Volunteers came out on top in Sunday’s matchup against UCSD. The Vols had lost the first two games of the season and were desperately looking for a big bounce-back game to get their confidence back. The game against UCSD did exactly that, and they reminded all of the College baseball fans around the country why they are a top 5 team in the nation.

The Vols looked like an all-around veteran team on Sunday, and they put the city of Knoxville on their backs and finally got that first win of the season. It’s always hard to get that first win, but the No. 3 ranked Vols, seem to have gotten over that nervous bump in the road, and will hopefully start rolling.

Here are two key takeaways from the Vols’ first win of the season:

Blake Burke Came Alive

Blake crushed his first home run of the season against UC San Diego on Sunday and finished the game 2-for-2 with one RBI. Burke is one of Tennessee baseball’s best hitters, and will hopefully continue having a hot bat throughout the rest of the season.

Drew Beam Pitches Shutout

Drew Beam was electric on Sunday and pitched 6 straight shutout innings. Beam only let up 3 hits in all 6 innings that he played, and struck out 6 batters in that time. He was a brute force on the mound and made all of the UCSD hitters look lost out there.
