No. 12 Tennessee (22-8, 11-6) must learn to live without star point guard Zakai Zeigler after the sophomore tore his ACL in the Vols’ win over Arkansas. They’ll take on Auburn (19-11, 9-8) today hoping to claim third place in the SEC.

Tennessee vs Auburn Prediction and Best Bet

Zeigler was a critical part of Tennessee’s offense, ranking third on the team in points per game while leading the program in assists. The Vols should experience some growing pains without him, and the offense already ranks just 216th in effective field goal percentage (49.9%).

However, Tennessee’s defense should remain elite. It leads the country in opponent effective field goal percentage (41.1%) thanks to a number of strong, physical defenders. Auburn is excellent in this area as well, ranking eighth (45%) in the same category.

Both teams rank outside of the top 150 in pace, helping keep the score low. While Tennessee is an excellent offensive rebounding team, neither squad is in the top 70 in free throw rate. With a slow pace, stellar defenses, and limited free throw opportunities, I’m comfortable backing the under.

As a cherry on top, recent trends support an under play as well. The under is 6-2-1 in the Vols’ last nine games and 4-2 in Auburn’s previous six.
