Tennessee basketball superstar point guard Zakai Zeigler had his surgery this past Monday and will not be with the team this weekend.

Earlier in the year, Tennessee basketball defeated Arkansas at home in a big SEC matchup. Still, just a few minutes into the game, point guard Zakai Zeigler suffered an ACL tear while cutting underneath the basket. It was a non-contact injury and silenced Thompson-Boling Arena, which I didn’t think was possible. One of the rowdiest arenas in College basketball could hear a pin drop at that moment. Zeigler had been one of the Volunteers’ best players all year and was a matchup nightmare for all teams facing Tennessee.

Zakai Zeigler Surgery Update.

According to Tennessee Athletics:

"“Zakai Zeigler had a successful ACL surgery on Monday and will not be with the team this weekend. If the Vols handle business, Zeigler will be able to join his teammates next weekend in his hometown of NYC.”"

It would be a special moment for Tennessee basketball to return home to Zeigler’s hometown in the Sweet 16. His presence alone at that game will certainly be a morale boost, and it’s the key to them making a run to the final four.

Furthermore, Zeigler’s mother had this to say on Facebook:

"“Thank you everyone!! I wish I had the time to respond to you all individually. Z had his surgery yesterday morning. All went well. He’s in a lot of pain, but he’s going to be just fine. Thank you for all your prayers, love and support. (And HUGE thanks for making it possible for me to be close enough for him to be home healing)! We do not have a large family! We appreciate you all for becoming a part of our extension of love!! You guys ROCK! #VFL He’ll be back in no time like he never left…”"
