Fans of the Tennessee Volunteers probably thought the season was over when Zakai Zeigler went out with a torn ACL, but the Volunteers have rallied to get to the Sweet 16. They got a scare from the Ragin’ Cajuns in round one, but in the round of 32, Rick Barnes’ team dominated Duke, 65-52. They’re still dancing in March Madness, but when was the last time that the Volunteers won the whole thing?

If the Volunteers are going to win the NCAA Tournament, then they first need a win over Florida Atlantic in the Sweet 16. Bet on that game or any game with this DraftKings Sportsbook promo.

When was the Volunteers last National Championship?

Rick Barnes and Tennessee basketball have something in common, they have never won a National Championship. Barnes has only made the Final Four once in his 27 years as a head coach at four different stops. That’s actually one more than Tennessee has had in its history.

Tennessee’s odds to win the National Championship

With the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds in the East Region, Purdue and Marquette gone Tennessee has emerged as the favorite to win the region and has the best odds of the remaining four teams to win it all at +1100.  FAU is first up for the Volunteers and the Volunteers are currently five point favorites in that game. If they advance, they will face either Kansas State or Michigan State in the Elite Eight.

Tennessee still has questions in the backcourt without Zeigler, but they were the more physical team against Duke and dominated that matchup with their depth and defense, 65-52. If they continue to shoot the ball well then they can really go on a run this March, but I trust guards in the tournament and the Volunteers are running out of them.

The region is wide open, so there could be some value in taking the Vols on a future, but Tom Izzo is looming and he might be the antithesis of Rick Barnes at least in terms of winning games in March.
