Tennessee Football: Vols’ latest recruiting updates, more
By Blake Wyman
The Tennessee Football 2024 recruiting class has been getting active lately, and the Vols are on the verge of landing several more top recruits.
Tennessee football recently welcomed the four-star QB out of Georgia, Jake Merklinger, to Rocky Top after a long-anticipated decision. Jake Merklinger is ranked No. 66 in his class and No. 6 out of all the 2024 QBs. Jake was deciding between other top-notch programs, including Georgia, North Carolina, Michigan State, Arkansas, Auburn, and more. This is a massive pickup for the Vols, and I can’t wait for him to arrive in Knoxville.
However, Jake is one of many that the Vols hope to commit to Tennessee. Here’s a quick rundown of whom the Vols are actively recruiting.
Tennessee Football’s Latest Recruiting Updates
5★ – Williams Nwaneri (DL):
Nwaneri has been offered by almost every top school in the country, so it’s unlikely that the Vols will land him. However, Nwaneri seems interested in the Volunteers and has shown that recently. Oklahoma is currently the front-runner to land the top DL, but this is Tennessee’s No. 1 DL target in the class of 2024, and there’s still some time to change Williams mind.
4★ – Daniel Calhoun (OT)
Calhoun is one of the best offensive tackles in this recruiting class, and at 6’6, 355 lbs, it’s rightfully so. The Volunteers have hosted him four times already, and Calhoun has an official visit scheduled for June 16th, which is a good sign. Daniel has narrowed down his future to 3 different schools: Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee.
4★ – Ify Obidegwu (CB)
Ify is in great shape to land on Rocky Top and is one of the best CBs in the 2024 recruiting class. He is a top 100 player nationally and just recently visited Knoxville for a third time. Ify is still in talks with Maryland, Penn State, and Ohio State, but the Vols have the best chance of getting him.
4★ – Ricardo Jones (S)
Jones is a fantastic athlete and one of the nation’s top players. He is currently between Tennessee, Auburn, and Florida State. Still, he’s probably leaning toward either the Vols or Auburn.
4★ – Boo Carter (ATH)
Boo Carter is from Tennessee and has visited Knoxville several times; he is a top 300 player in the country and was just recently crystal balled by the Vols. I think Boo will be announcing his commitment to Rocky Top shortly, and he is almost a lock to land in Tennessee.
