Tennessee football is undefeated against these FBS teams
Tennessee football vs the Sun Belt
Tennessee football is undefeated against more Sun Belt teams than any other conference. However, that is a bit of a cheat, as some of the teams the Vols are undefeated against haven’t been Sun Belt squads for very long.
Appalachian State: App State almost avoided this list when they lost 20-13 in 2016. That game went all the way to overtime.
Arkansas State: The Red Wolves have given the Vols some decent contests in 2007 (48-27 loss) and 2014 (34-19 defeat).
Louisiana-Lafayette: ULL played the Volunteers twice and were outscored 97-10. It’s not surprising they’ve only played the two times.
Louisiana Monroe: If you thought Lafayette had a poor showing against the Tennessee football team, then don’t look at the only time Monroe has played UT. They lost that game 70-3 in 2000.
Marshall: The Thundering Herd played the SEC school back when Marshall was a member of the MAC. Their 34-24 loss in 2003 was close enough but three years later they were stomped 33-7.
Southern Mississippi: The Golden Eagles have more experience than most against the Volunteers, and the end result of that experience is an 0-6 record that includes a 56-0 loss in 1950, 42-0 in 1995, 44-20 in 1997, a 19-16 in 2000, 39-19 in 2007 and 24-10 in 2017.
Troy: It’s likely that after the Tennessee football team got all it could from Troy in a 55-48 win in 2012, they decided the Trojans weren’t worth risking their record against.
