UTEP

  • Overall series record: 0-2
  • First matchup: December 28, 1962
  • Last matchup: November 28, 2013
  • Last score: UTEP 78, Tennessee 70

Looking back, Tennessee has had a pair of matchups against UTEP, including many decades ago when this was one of the stronger programs in all of college basketball under Don Haskins.

The first game was back in 1962, when the school was still called Texas Western and Haskins was in just his second season leading the program. The game was played in El Paso as part of the Sun Bowl Tournament and the Miners made somewhat easy work of things, winning 77-57.

More than half a century later, these two would meet again in the 2013 Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas with a similar result. Despite 22 points from Jordan McRae and a double-double from Jarnell Stokes, UTEP prevailed 78-70, shooting significantly better from the field. Four months later, Tennessee would win three straight Tourney games and make the Sweet Sixteen.
