3 key transfer portal targets the Tennessee Vols can still land for 2025

Will a commit or two be on the way this weekend?

As you've probably read about before, the Tennessee Vols haven't had the best of luck in recruiting transfer portal players this winter. While the Vols and Josh Heupel have been in on a lot of playmakers, the staff has only been able to sign two players.

Those two are wideout Amari Jefferson and interior lineman Wendell Moe Jr. However, there's still time for the Vols to turn things around before we switch our focus to spring football. With that in mind, here's a look at three players in the portal Tennessee has high interest in that we'd love to see the program sign:

3. Penn State WR transfer Omari Evans

Earlier this week, star Penn State speedster Omari Evans announced he was going to enter the portal. Shortly after, Hayes Fawcett of On3 revealed that Evans is going to be taking official visits to Tennessee, Washington, Texas Tech and Syracuse.

All four spots would make a ton of sense for Evans. With Washington, the Huskies just parted ways with former 5-star WR Johntay Cook. Meanwhile for Tennessee, five WRs entered the portal and Heupel is working to add experience and depth for the position. Evans would be a nice get.

2. Duke RB transfer Star Thomas

Star Thomas is a new name for Tennessee football fans to keep an eye on moving forward. A member of the 2022 class, Thomas went the JUCO route and then he ended up signing with Duke. He's coming off a big season with the Blue Devils, rushing for more than 800 yards and adding seven TDs.

There's plenty of exciting, young talent for the Tennessee RBs room, but the unit is missing experience now that Dylan Sampson is off to the NFL. Could Thomas make a move to Knoxville and push for the starting job?

1. Purdue CB transfer Kyndrich Breedlove

Last but not least, Purdue cornerback Kyndrich Breedlove is an intriguing playmaker. Earlier in the week, Breedlove announced he was going to commit to Arizona State, but then he decided to take a visit to Tennessee first before signing anything.

With star cornerback Jermod McCoy suffering a torn ACL during an offseason workout, his status for Week 1 is totally up in the air. Because of that, signing a veteran CB at this point of the offseason would be a huge win for Heupel and his defensive coaches.
