Analyst Danny Kanell drops his worst SEC-Tennessee Vols take yet
It goes without saying, but it was a wild weekend in the SEC. The Tennessee Vols and Josh Heupel took care of business at home against UTEP, posting a 56-0 win at Neyland Stadium. However, there were some other shocking results posted.
Ole Miss and Lane Kiffin blew it against Florida, while Kalen DeBoer and Alabama were shocked by Oklahoma, losing in concerning fashion. We can't wait to find out how things are shaped out for the new College Football Playoff rankings this week.
However, if you ask Danny Kanell, the quarterback turned analyst, it doesn't matter where teams in the SEC are ranked, because teams in the conference are going to be 'terrified' to go up north to play in a cold-weather game.
So, if Tennessee has to venture to play in cold temperatures, Heupel's team is suddenly going to turn into the Miami Dolphins, with Nico Iamaleava becoming Tua Tagovailoa, but not in a good way? Get real, Danny!
Danny Kanell claims SEC teams will be terrified to play in cold CFP temps
Let's imagine a world where Tennessee has to travel to South Bend to take on Notre Dame in the first round of the College Football Playoff. If this turns out to be the case, Notre Dame would be favored as the home team, but come on, we can't just assume because of temps in the 30s/40s that the Vols would get dominated by the Fighting Irish.
Tennessee's two losses this year have come against Arkansas and Georgia. Notre Dame's lone loss of the season came... at home to Northern Illinois. That was an unreal upset by NIU and one that was a bad look for Marcus Freeman and his team.
We're not guaranteeing a Tennessee win over Notre Dame if they do meet in the first round, but the idea of Nico and others being scared of cold weather is beyond laughable. Tennessee will need to take care of business against Vanderbilt this weekend and then it will be focused on silencing haters across the country. Apparently Kanell is on that list of people who are doubting not only the Vols, but other SEC elites too.
