Late in the heartbreaking loss to South Carolina, stud Tennessee running back DeSean Bishop went down with a rough-looking injury. Because of that, No. 18 wasn't on the field when the Volunteers needed him most to try to ice the game. It hurt beyond belief, while there had also been worry that perhaps his injury would be serious enough to force him to miss Week 10.

Thankfully, that's not going to happen. Head coach Josh Heupel had hinted that Bishop was doing well in his recovery, and furthermore, the veteran running back was nowhere to be seen on the initial injury report for the upcoming showdown with Kentucky. Yup, Bishop will be all systems go in what could turn out to be a season-defining game for the Vols.

DeSean Bishop will be Tennessee's biggest hope in taking down Kentucky at Neyland Stadium

Per the AP Poll, the Wildcats are No. 8 in the nation, while also checking in at No. 6 in the eyes of the CFP committee. Tennessee is No. 16 and No. 13 there, respectively. Will Stein knows the importance of this rivalry clash, as a loss would be a major setback for the Wildcats. That's of course nothing for Tennessee to care about, as the Vols have to win this one.

With Bishop healthy, it's only going to help Tennessee in making sure that happens. The 5-foot-10, 215-pounder is in the middle of an incredible campaign taking the lead on offense for Heupel, rushing for 957 yards and 11 touchdowns on 171 carries. Bishop averaging 5.6 yards per carry, too, is nothing to overlook. In his last four games in particular, Bishop has been a monster making magic happen:

  • In the win against Auburn: 34 carries for 220 yards, and three touchdowns
  • In the win against Arkansas, 19 carries for 138 yards, and a touchdown
  • In the win against Alabama, 32 carries for 159 yards, and two touchdowns
  • In the loss to South Carolina, 32 carries for 120 yards, and a touchdown

Goodness. What will Bishop have in store for the Kentucky defense? That's something people in Knoxville can't wait to find out, as the Vols are going to enter this contest with plenty of motivation following the deflating ending against the Gamecocks. As you all know, the Vols simply have to record a win against UK to have any hope of reaching the CFP this winter.

As a matter of fact, the Vols have to go 4-0 for that to go down. With that, Bishop is going to have a major say in how the rest of the campaign goes, of course including this upcoming matchup against Stein and his playmakers.

It's not wild to think about Bishop going for 140-150 yards, and two scores. Will that kind of a performance come in a convincing win for the Vols, who are favored by 6.5 points, this weekend? We sure hope so.
