Is anyone playing better than Tennessee Vols sharpshooter Chaz Lanier in the NCAA Tournament? In the win over Wofford, Lanier was lights out, scoring 29 points in a win. Then against UCLA, more of the same was showcased from the senior standout.

Lanier finished with 20 points, making several big-time shots for Rick Barnes and the Vols as a whole. In the middle of the action too, Lanier drilled yet another 3-pointer, breaking the previous single-season record held by UT legend Chris Lofton. On Sunday morning, Lanier took to social media to acknowledge he made history, and he did so in the most humble way possible:

Chaz Lanier was quite humble after making Vols 3-point history vs UCLA

You've got to love this kid. Lanier is just happy to leave his mark on the program, but he's also appreciative of the players that have come before him. At the same time, No. 2 knows that there's still plenty of work left to get done.

With Tennessee taking down UCLA, the Vols are now headed to the Sweet Sixteen for the third consecutive season. Come next week, UT will take on either Illinois or Kentucky with a trip to the Elite Eight on the line. Can you imagine if Kentucky beats Illinois?

Should that happen, it would set up a third matchup this season between Barnes and Mark Pope. Thus far this year, the Wildcats have been able to dominate Tennessee, beating them both in Knoxville and Lexington.

It's fair to say that UK has had Tennessee's number this campaign. However, the Vols would look to change everything if they meet up in the next round. It goes without saying, but Lanier will be ready to rock too in what could be a memorable SEC showdown. Hey, Illinois is pretty dang good too, so let's not forget about them either. Regardless, plenty of eyes will be on Lanier to keep on playing at an unreal level. Thus far, he's been tremendous to watch in two March Madness contests.
