Tennessee basketball ended the first half of the season with another win over a non-conference foe, improving the Vols' record to 13-0 ahead of conference play, which begins this weekend with a trip to No. 23 Arkansas.
The Vols' most recent win came on New Year's Eve against Norfolk State. Chaz Lanier led the Vols in scoring on the way to its 67-52 win to end 2024 with 24 points and six made three-point shots.
Lanier is on pace to put his name in the program record book this season as he continues to drain three-point shots no matter the opponent. He has 51 made three-point shots so far this season, which puts him on pace to break the program record set by Chris Lofton with 118 made three-point shots during the 2007-2008 season.
Jordan Moore shared on X that Lofton had 40 made three-point shots in that season through 13 games, which gives Lanier a significant cushion to break the record as the Vols head into conference play.
Chaz Lanier came to Rocky Top as one of the country's most efficient shooters, and he has proven that and more for the Vols in his lone season in Orange and White.
He's averaging 19.6 points, three rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game while shooting 45% from the field and 45.9% from three.
Lanier will have the opportunity to continue closing in on Lofton's record when the Vols head to Fayetteville to face John Calipari's Arkansas Razorbacks. It will be Tennessee's first test of January as the Vols prepare for a gauntlet SEC schedule.
