After a couple of interviews, the Tennessee Athletic Director has decided to promote Associate Head Coach Josh Elander to the next head coach of Tennessee baseball.

Since Tony Vitello announced he would be leaving Rocky Top to be the next manager for the San Francisco Giants, former and current players, coaches, and fans have called for Tennessee to promote Elander to head coach.

After interviews with outside coaches, there were concerns that Tennessee's administration would go in a different direction, but White and the Vols ultimately made the right decision by promoting Elander.

"From the outset of this national search, Josh emerged as the undeniable top choice," Danny White shared about the decision. "His relentless commitment has helped transform Tennessee baseball into a powerhouse, and we are proud to have him as our next head coach on Rocky Top.

"His influence inspires excellence in every aspect of our program, and we look forward to continuing our quest for championships on the diamond under Josh's guidance!"

The biggest concern with Vitello's departure would be the potential loss of current players and recruits. A new coach could choose to blow things up and go a different direction than Vitello, leaving Tennessee's baseball to reset with a new look and new players.

That shouldn't be the case with Elander. He is a big reason why many players are committed to Tennessee and a big part of the recruiting process for the players already on campus.

That's largely why Elander was Tennessee's best option during this coaching search. As the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator, Elander spent much of the past eight seasons building Tennessee's baseball program alongside Vitello.

He can also pick up right where Vitello left off and continue the recruiting momentum and on-field domination. The Vols shouldn't skip a beat with Elander at the helm and will receive overwhelming support from former and current players, coaches, and recruits.

"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity here on Rocky Top," Elander said about the promotion. "I'm really happy for our players to continue building on what we've already built here. The hunt continues, and we're still excited. Love this place and these people. So thankful for the best that's yet to come."

Elander received overwhelming public support to become Tennessee baseball's next head coach, and now he has the opportunity to lead the Vols back to Omaha as the Vols search for their second national championship.
