Tennessee baseball has started the season 7-0 with two impressive three-game sweeps against Hofstra and Samford. Despite the success, the Vols aren't getting the respect they deserve in the top 25 poll.
They came into the season ranked No. 4 in the country, which was understandable due to a high turnover rate at the plate and on the mound. Still, Tennessee has clearly proven they are ready to compete for another national championship.
Tennessee has been dominant on the mound and leads the country in home runs at the plate, proving Tony Vitello and company have done a great job developing the roster mixed with traditionally recruited and transfer portal players.
Despite the immediate success with a retooled and revamped roster and No. 1 Texas A&M and No. 2 LSU taking unranked non-conference losses, Tennessee only moved up one spot to No. 3 in the updated D1 Baseball Top 25 rankings.
However, the Vols did receive recognition as the No. 1 team in college baseball in the updated USA Today Coaches Poll, which is voted on by selected coaches throughout college baseball.
Tennessee started the year at No. 2 in the coaches poll and jumped to No. 1 after A&M's loss over the weekend. The Vols received 18 first-place votes to the Aggies' 11 first-place votes, nearly doubling the number of first-place votes Tennessee received in the initial poll.
