This is how it was meant to be forTennessee running back DeSean Bishop. The scenes of him getting surrounded by over-the-moon Vols fans after the upset against Alabama was posted had to mean everything to him, and understandably so.
Bishop grew up in Knoxville, watching this game as a little boy. Despite never getting a scholarship offer from the Vols, which he blames Alex Golesh for, he made his way to campus as a preferred walk-on, busting his hump to prove to Josh Heupel that he belonged in the SEC. That much was once again proven in the win over the Crimson Tide.
Bishop was spectacular, brilliant, tremendous - the list goes on for how to describe his performance. After recording 32 carries for 159 yards and two touchdowns, Bishop didn't hold back in showcasing his emotions. Just like George MacIntyre, Bishop said it was a dream come true for him.
"It's just crazy, man," Bishop said with a huge smile on his face after the win. "You look back at the start of my journey and I was literally watching this game at home, and now I'm making the plays that make the difference for my team. It's truly a blessing. I truly wouldn't be here without God, and to see what he's done not just in my life, but my teammates around me, and knowing that other people have been a big factor in my life, you just can't stop it. We get overlooked pretty often in the media, in the rankings. I really do believe that he's working through this team, and nobody can stop what he has for us."
DeSean Bishop's Tennessee journey now includes an unstoppable performance against Alabama
Because of how humble and down to earth Bishop is, he's an incredibly easy young man to root for. With how the transfer portal works, too, he could have easily jumped ship and played elsewhere. Instead he didn't chase other opportunities, deciding to give his all to the Vols. His love for everything orange knows no measures, and he acts that way when the ball is in his hands.
Against Alabama, whenever the Tennessee offense needed someone to step up, Bishop was there to answer the call. He runs the ball with force, and his two second-half touchdown runs were far too much for Alabama to overcome. No. 16 in your programs and No. 1 in your hearts? That was pretty fair to say after the final whistle, with Bishop easily being one of the players of the game for Josh Heupel and his staff.

Out of Karns High in Knoxville, Bishop was a bruising back with plenty of scholarships from other programs. Still, he took the hard route to make it on the Tennessee roster and stick there, eventually being put on scholarship. Fast forward to present time, Bishop has become one of the best RBs in the country, while also helping Tennessee take down Alabama when it was ranked No. 6 in the land.
This is the kind of stuff that little kids dream about when playing football with their friends in the street or backyard. Bishop has turned everything into a reality, with his determination and work ethic being unmatched. He's a special talent, a good dude, and a fantastic teammate. All the praise he's getting is well deserved, with much more coming his way the rest of the season.
