Former Tennessee offensive coordinator Alex Golesh will be one of the hottest names in the country this offseason. Not only because of what he has done at USF this season, but also as the coaching carousel jumps into full swing.
Golesh has completely turned around the USF football program, holding a 20-13 record through two and a half seasons in Tampa, including a 6-1 start to the season this year.
The Bulls are hoping to be the Group of Five's representative in this year's College Football Playoff, and if that happens, Golesh very well could be on his way to a big-time job with a big-time pay raise.
Golesh's name has already been thrown around with the Arkansas opening, but the Florida job has been the biggest likelihood to get him to leave what he has built in South Florida.
While he won't be the top name on the big board, that will go to fellow former Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin, his name will be pretty high on Florida's list, especially if he reaches the CFP in year three.
Florida will likely go for a well-established coach like Kiffin or Eli Drinkwitz, but their most realistic option could be Golesh, and it could be the pick with the highest upside for Florida.
Of course, this would be a decision Tennessee fans would root against. As someone who is happy to support Golesh at USF, I don't want to see him on Tennessee's schedule every year, especially with one of Tennessee's rivals.
USF still has a lot to play for this season, with matchups against Memphis, UTSA, and Navy still on the schedule. It will be hard for the Bulls to look ahead, but Golesh and the Bulls have the opportunity to make the CFP and upset some top programs in college football.
If he does that, it's only a matter of time before the former Tennessee offensive coordinator is coaching somewhere in the SEC or Power 4.
