Tennessee baseball is off to another elite start to the season. This time, the Vols are coming off their first national championship in program history, and they look to defend their title with a retooled roster.
The Vols wasted no time getting the bats hot and showing off their dynamic new roster. Everyone got involved in the hitting parades that took place over the first four games.
Virtually everyone on the roster has gotten a hit and scored a run in the first four games. Tennessee outscored its first two opponents 67-6 in its first four games, including scoring 29 runs in its midweek matchup against UNC Asheville.
Now, Tennessee turns to its second weekend series of the year. This time, they welcome Samford to Lindsey Nelson Stadium and look to repeat its efforts from the first weekend series against Hofstra.
Tennessee opens the three-game series on Friday at 2 PM ET, game two will be on Saturday at 2 PM ET, and game three will be at 1 PM ET. All three games will be available to watch on SEC Network+ all weekend long.
Samford will be a new challenge for Tennessee. They have been predicted to finish second in the SoCon conference, which could put them in the running to make the NCAA Tournament at the end of the year.
Liam Doyle is scheduled to start game one of the series on Friday after a dominant shutout performance in Tennessee's season opener. Marcus Phillips is scheduled to start game two, while game three's starter has not yet been determined.
Tennessee has a strong pitching staff this year and should be able to open the series the right way with a dominant pitcher on the mound, a fresh bullpen available, and some of the hottest bats in the country ready to help him at the plate.
