In the new era of college football, bowl games are an afterthought for players. Bowl games used to be a chance to cap off the year and a way to build momentum for next season. Now, players are opting out of them for the NFL Draft and stepping away from their current programs, intending to enter the transfer portal when it opens in January.

With the Music City Bowl around the corner, many fans were wondering whether Tennessee's star quarterback would opt out of the bowl. Well, good news for Tennessee fans, Aguilar is officially in.

The Tennessee players met with the media on Tuesday afternoon and Aguilar had a lot of good things to say. When asked if he considered opting out Aguilar said, "Nah. It's one more opportunity to go play with the guys." Aguilar also said, " If it's my last game or not, I'm excited to go back out there with this team one more time. I'm grateful to the community and my teammates for welcoming me in."

Joey Aguilar will play in Music City Bowl vs Illinois

This is terrific news for Josh Heupel and the Big Orange Nation. Aguilar was always a fan favorite, but with this decision, he will be a Vols legend for life. You can genuinely tell how much Aguilar loves being a Tennessee Volunteer. He talks about the school, his teammates, and the fans with so much passion. Tennessee is lucky to have a signal-caller like him.

Aguilar has had a fantastic season in his one year at Tennessee. He led the SEC in yards with 3,444 yards and an impressive 24 passing touchdowns. After Nico Iamaleava's situation, Aguilar provided a steady option for the Vols and filled in a much-needed leadership role for the team.

If this is Aguilars' final game, the Vols will likely add another transfer portal quarterback. Hopefully, we are as lucky as we were with Aguilar.

Fans are really hoping that he can come back for one more year. If the Music City Bowl is Aguilar's last game, it will be a sad day in Knoxville.
