Former Tennessee quarterback Josh Dobbs will have another starting opportunity in the NFL with the San Fransisco 49ers, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan.

Arizona Cardinals' head coach Jonathan Gannon seemed excited to hear Dobbs will have another opportunity to start in the NFL, saying, "It will be good to see Dobbsy" ahead of the division matchup.

Dobbs' NFL career has been up and down since being drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2017 NFL Draft.

He has been a journeyman that has played for five NFL organizations. After being drafted by the Steelers and spending three years in Pittsburgh, he spent one year with the Titans, shared the 2023 season with the Cardinals and Vikings, and has spent all of 2024 with the 49ers.

His career can be perfectly summed up in his tenure as the Arizona Cardinals' quarterback during the 2023 season.

The Cardinals went 1-7 during Dobbs' eight starts but it wasn't entirely because of Dobbs. He threw for 1,569 yards and eight touchdowns and gave the Cardinals life even though it didn't result in multiple ticks in the win column.

49ers fans are already calling this a "revenge week" for Dobbs against his former team due to Brock Purdy being sidelined with an elbow injury.

The 49ers have been eliminated from playoff contention with a 6-10 record heading into the final week of the season. They are playing for nothing more than pride against a division rival in Week 18 with Dobbs taking over the reigns.

San Fransisco and Arizona are scheduled to kick off at 4:25 PM ET on FOX. The former Tennessee quarterback will look to reignite the connection between himself and former Tennessee wide receiver Jauan Jennings, who has been an anchor in the 49ers receivers room over the past couple of seasons.
