Josh Heupel being linked to new head coach opening is more absurd than it sounds

Come on, never going to happen.

With so many job openings around the country, it's that time of the year where a bunch of names get tossed around like it's nothing. Now we can include Tennessee football head coach and program savior Josh Heupel to the list? Come on!

Tennessee vs. Oklahoma betting line makes Week 10 battle even more intriguing

The LSU Tigers and Scott Woodward are going to be looking far and wide to replace Brian Kelly and they might get into desperation mode to wipe away the bad memories of having BK in charge. Enter Heupel? Seemingly out of nowhere, On3's LSU site has mentioned Heupel as a potential candidate for the position. Again, come on:

There's no way Josh Heupel would consider leaving Tennessee football for LSU

We get it. LSU has to make a splash move and Heupel's offense is a ton of fun to watch. He'd no question fill the stands and revive what was once an exciting program to follow. However, Heupel has it made with Tennessee and he's done remarkable work to get the Vols back to where they need to be.

After reaching the College Football Playoff in 2024, Tennessee is in a fantastic spot to do so again this campaign. It's not going to be easy, however, as the Vols are going to have to win out the rest of the way and that includes posting a victory in the monster showdown this weekend vs. Oklahoma.

That's what Heupel's full focus is on, while also making sure he keeps landing big-name recruits for 2026 and beyond too. Thus far, Tennessee has four 5-star commits on board, with Faizon Brandon, Tristen Keys, Salesi Moa and Gabriel Osenda ready to do orange at the next level.

LSU is working wonders for its 2026 class too and things aren't changing there despite Kelly getting canned. Still, why would Heupel leave for a new SEC school after everything he's getting done with the Vols and everything he still needs to get done. While we respect the job the LSU team at On3 does, we just don't see any world where Heupel even picks up a call from the Tigers if it comes in.
