Boom! Tennessee has another gold medal when it comes to recruiting, as the Vols have picked up a commitment this time from Alpharetta, Georgia, quarterback Derrick Baker. Rivals has Baker rated as the No. 23 quarterback in the class of 2027 and the No. 34 player in the state of Georgia.
NFL comes calling as LA Rams expected to hire a Tennessee defensive coach
Baker missed most of his junior season with a hand injury, so hopefully he can bounce back with a big senior year at powerhouse Milton High School. However, in a game versus Buford, a notably elite school, he made an amazing play. Baker dropped back into the pocket until he saw it collapsing, and he started to move up. He saw his wide receiver on a streak winning his one-on-one and flicked the ball effortlessly 40 yards down the field on the run.
Baker has a great mixture of dual-threat capability and arm strength that will fit perfectly in Knoxville. This was a big get for Josh Heupel and the staff.

Derrick Baker is the fifth Vols 2027 pledge
Tennessee is off to a strong start in the 2027 class with five commits already in the fold, including two four-star prospects in the Rivals Industry Rankings. It’s easy to get caught up in star ratings, but even the Vols’ three-star commits are right on the verge of earning another bump. The bottom line? Heupel is still prioritizing top-end talent in Knoxville after an amazing 2026 class and successful portal haul.
The 2027 class is just starting, but the Vols have put together a nice start to build off of. Tennessee is rated the No. 17 class in the nation, and it will slowly keep improving over the next few months. With Tennessee in the mix for several elite running backs and offensive linemen, and now adding Baker, the future of this offense still looks very bright.
Baker will now have to put his recruiting cap on and help Heupel land some of his top targets. Knoxville's future is looking good, and with George MacIntyre, Faizon Brandon, and now Baker, they should have a future stud quarterback in the program.
