The Tennessee football program has been relentlessly recruiting the class of 2027, and with spring football around the corner, head coach Josh Heupel has his eye on some top targets. With that said its also never too early to get ahead on the class of 2028.
Tennessee doesn't have any 2028 commits yet, but it's never too early to try and get its first.
Rivals is reporting that Tennessee and LSU are both making the push to try to flip Georgia's quarterback commit Jayden Wade, the No. 1 overall player in the class of 2028.

The first of many SEC recruiting battles for Josh Heupel
Wade plays at IMG Academy, one of the top high school programs in the nation. The 6-foot-3 quarterback has been committed to Georgia since November, but given that he pledged to the Bulldogs so early, there is surely an opportunity to flip him. The next step for Heupel is to get him on campus and show him what a Vols spring practice looks like.
Tennessee has a lot to sell to any young quarterback, not just Wade. The amount of top talent that is on its way to Knoxville on offense is amazing. The Vols signed three five-stars in the class of 2026, all on offense, and are in position with some really good classes of 2027 recruits.
Although with Wade being committed to Georgia, arguably the best program in the nation over the last 10 years, he won't be easy to flip. Plus, for Vols head coach Lane Kiffin is making a charge. Kiffin is a good recruiter and the pockets run deep in Baton Rouge, so that again presents another challenge for Tennesse. If the Vols can string together a couple of very good seasons, who knows what will happen with Wade's recruitment? Wade's recruitment is the first of many big recruiting battles Tennessee will be involved in for the class of 2028.
It's still very early in the process, but it's nice to see Heupel already looking ahead in the class of 2028 to secure Tennessee some of the best talent out there.
