The whole situation between Tennessee football and Boo Carter is one that's nothing short of disappointing. Carter was once a fan favorite and he was a stud for the program during his freshman season. Since then, everything has fallen off the rails.

Boo Carter calls out Josh Heupel in new twist following his Tennessee exit

Things reached a breaking point over the weekend, with Carter and the Vols deciding to part ways. Since then, Carter claimed that he was dealing with an injury and that Heupel and the Tennessee staff were trying to make him play hurt.

Obviously, this was a bit of a head-turning accusation. Heupel was asked about things on Monday during his presser leading up to the Florida game. Should Carter have been on the injury report over the past month or so? Nope, Heupel said.

Josh Heupel said former Tennessee DB Boo Carter was not injured before leaving the team

"No sir," Heupel said. "Not based on our trainers."

So, on one hand you have Carter saying he was injured and that he shouldn't have been suiting up. Then you have Heupel sticking to his side and stating that Carter was not injured and the Tennessee training staff believed he was healthy enough to play. What a mess.

Carter is now planning to enter the transfer portal when it opens and the expectation is that he's going to have several teams fighting for his services. Could a move to the ACC be on the way for him, or will Deion Sanders and Co. come calling once again from Colorado?

Things are up in the air there, but Carter has played his last down for the Vols. We've previously discussed his off-the-field issues, which included him skipping workouts and stepping away from the team over the summer. There was reportedly division among the players on whether or not to bring him back.

Carter was given another chance with Tennessee and the hope was that he'd be able to bounce back and make a huge impact for the Vols in '25. Instead, things didn't go to plan for both sides and now the former 4-star signee will be looking for a new home.

There's more to come from this story, but Heupel also wasn't going to let the defensive back make it seem like he was trying to make him play if he wasn't healthy enough to do so. You can understand why Heupel might be frustrated too, as this is probably the last thing he wants to be talking about before a huge road showdown against the Gators.
