We will get resolution on the Joshua Jefferson injury front in some way, shape, or form here soon. With the Tennessee Volunteers taking on the Iowa State Cyclones in their Sweet 16 matchup on Friday, all eyes on are the status of the Cyclones' best player. Jefferson had to exit midway through Iowa State's first-round game vs. Tennessee State. He did not play at all vs. Kentucky last weekend.

Iowa State head coach TJ Otzelberger shared that it will be another game-time decision for him.

The All-American forward has been instrumental in Iowa State being a total force in the Big 12, earning a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament in the process. Although the Midwest may run through Michigan, Iowa State has been one of those programs that could conceivably knock down the Wolverines. Of course, the Cyclones will have to get past Rick Barnes' Volunteers first on Friday night.

Let's discuss how much of an impact Jefferson's injury status could have on the game for Tennessee.

Joshua Jefferson remains a game-time decision for the Tennessee game

According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Iowa State is a slight 3.5-point favorite over Tennessee on Friday night. The associated moneylines for this game are Iowa State -188 and Tennessee +155. The projected point total for this contest come in at a combined 138.5 points. Based off that, we could be looking at a final score somewhere in the vicinity of Iowa State beating Tennessee 71-67.5 on Friday.

Clearly, the betting odds have Jefferson's questionable game status baked into it. The same thing applied to the Cyclones' Round of 32 game with the Kentucky Wildcats. While UK kept it close in the first half, Otzelberger's juggernaut team prevailed anyway. If Tennessee wants to advance to the Elite Eight, it will need to play a strong 40 minutes throughout. Iowa State is adept at halftime adjustments.

Overall, it serves Otzelberger to keep this as close to the vest as humanly possible. He does not want to give a savvy head coach like Barnes any leaning whatsoever over his best player's game status. What Barnes and his staff should do is plan for Jefferson to play, but keep incredibly close tabs on how the Cyclones have looked over the last three halves without him on the floor. They can do this.

For now, Jefferson will get an extra day's worth of rest before the second half of the Sweet 16 starts.
