Tennessee wins its eight-straight game to open the season with its 139-59 win over North Carolina Central. The Eagles didn't stand a chance on the road. The Lady Vols outscored the Eagles 33-10 in the first quarter as they quickly opened the game up and put it out of reach by halftime.
To add to the Lady Vols' seventh double-digit win, they set another program record in Kim Caldwell's first season as the head coach. Tennessee made 27 three-point shots in this game, breaking the previous record of 16 three-point shots made in a single game.
Tennessee also set the SEC and NCAA records for the most three-point shots made in a game. The previous SEC record was 19, and the NCAA record was 28 made threes. Now, after Saturday's game, the Lady Vols will add their name to the Southeastern Conference and NCAA record book.
The Lady Vols also set the SEC record for points in a game. They finished the game with 138 points, which broke the previous record of 137 set in 2002 by Pat Summitt-led Tennessee.
The Lady Vols finally entered the AP poll this week after starting the season 7-0. Tennessee has also been on a dominant streak, outscoring its opponents 648 to 466 before its 80-point win over NC Central. They have now outscored their opponents 787 to 525.
Tennessee will now prepare for Memphis after starting the season 8-0. The Lady Vols and Tigers will play in a few days on December 18, with two more matchups to follow next weekend. Tennessee will play Richmond on December 20 and Tulsa on December 21.
