Lane Kiffin and LSU hiring a former Tennessee national champ downright stings

You've got to be kidding.

If you were looking for another reason to be annoyed with LSU and Lane Kiffin, he just provided it. While Kiffin has made a splash since making the move from Ole Miss to Baton Rouge, his latest hire isn't going to make anyone in Knoxville smile: that's because Tee Martin is joining his staff.

What? That's right, Martin was most recently the quarterbacks coach for the Baltimore Ravens, but he's now SEC-bound to serve as an offensive analyst for Kiffin. Martin is of course a Tennessee legend, helping the Vols win a national title in the late 90s. Seeing him in LSU gear moving forward is not going to look right at all:

LSU and Lane Kiffin have hired Tennessee legend Tee Martin

Martin indeed is beloved all over the Tennessee campus, as he was with the Vols from 1996-99. He was a stud quarterback, which ultimately led to him getting drafted in the fifth round of the 2000 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

His pro career didn't last long, but he was able to make a smooth transition to the coaching ranks. Martin was with Tennessee as an assistant for two seasons before making the move to Baltimore to work with the Ravens. Martin made a name for himself in the NFL, but now LSU is calling after the Ravens let him go.

We're happy for Martin here, but again, it just sucks that everyone is going to have to see a UT great like this working at LSU - especially for Kiffin. He's not the only Vols legend to join an SEC rival this offseason, however, as Jason Witten is now with Oklahoma.

Witten's move to Norman was only made worse when his son Cooper, a 5-star linebacker, committed to the Sooners over Tennessee and others. Yeah, that was brutal and Martin coaching as an analyst with LSU isn't making things better. We're always going to wish Martin well, but he's going to be a bit of an emery when he takes on Tennessee moving forward. The Vols are set to take on LSU on Nov. 21 in Knoxville and that meeting just got way more intriguing.
