The Vols have been in high-profile recruitments this offseason, but none of them have been higher than the Juke Harris sweepstakes, in which Rick Barnes has likely put the Vols in the lead as of now. Tennessee is going head-to-head with blue-blood North Carolina and their deep pockets, and the defending national champion Michigan for the Harris pledge.
Tennessee’s recruiting surge continues with elite athletic forward commitment
According to a recent On3 report, per Josh Henschke, Juke Harris is still in no rush to make a decision. Tennessee may have the lead, but this looks like a recruitment that’s going to drag out a bit longer. Michigan and North Carolina are still hanging around, so the old lead could slowly evaporate over time.
Emptied the notebook on Juke Harris after speaking with folks in both Chapel Hill and Knoxville. Michigan is still lurking, but right now, Harris won't be in a rush to make a decision.

Can UNC, Vols, or U-M afford to wait it out?

Tennessee is prepared to miss out on Juke Harris
The good news is that the Vols are prepared if they don’t land Harris. Tennessee has already added Tyler Lundblade, Dai Dai Ames, and Jalen Haralson, all of whom averaged around 16 points per game last season. Ames and Harralson did it in the ACC, proving they can compete at the high-major level. Plus, Terrance Hill Jr. is trending in Tennessee’s direction as well after posting 15 points per game at VCU last year. All three players will be high-impact guys for the Vols next season, should they land Hill.
Don’t get it wrong, the Vols still badly want Harris in Knoxville next year. He would elevate this team from top-15 or so to arguable No. 1. He's that good. But on the other hand, if Barnes misses out on the Wake Forest star, Tennessee is still well-prepared and will be a top SEC team next season. Tennesse has done a tremendous job replenishing talent in the portal, and not to mention the Vols could still get freshman star Nate Ament for one more season.
Harris is ranked as the No. 7 player in the portal this cycle according to 247Sports, so missing out on him would be a tough pill to swallow. But the reality is that, with the large influx of talent Tennessee has already brought in, the Vols will still be just fine.
