Things just keep going from bad to worse for standout Tennessee cornerback Jermod McCoy.
Despite him suffering a torn ACL and missing the 2025 season, there was plenty of hope that he'd be a first-round pick. That didn't happen. Then, the assumption was that teams would have been quick to jump at the chance of drafting him in the second round. That didn't happen either.
The fact that McCoy has had to wait this long is a total nightmare for him. Well, things were just made worse, as live on the ESPN broadcast, Mel Kiper Jr. didn't hesitate in saying that if McCoy was healthy and there were no injury concerns on him, the standout CB would have easily been a Top 10 or Top 15 pick.
Jermod McCoy continues sliding in the 2026 NFL Draft due to injury concerns
In a recent NFL Mock Draft from ESPN's Jordan Reid, he had McCoy going No. 15 overall to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. As soon as the Tennessee faithful saw that, optimism arrived that the red flags on his medical records were a bit overblown.
We're quickly learning those records must have been way worse than any of us could have imagined. Seriously, how in the world was McCoy not taken by the end of the second round? The more he falls in this draft, the more disbelief people are in.
Soon enough, something tells us a general manager is going to take a gamble and give McCoy a shot. Will he end up being the steal of the draft when we look back on things in a few years? Hopefully that's what ends up being the case.
Little did we know that when McCoy suffered his serious knee injury while working out back home in Texas after the 2024 season, it would change his entire NFL Draft outlook and career. We'll say it again - we feel bad for this kid, as this is a draft fall we simply did not see coming. Teams are no question going to regret passing up on McCoy, as he can end up being a total game-changer for a defense if given the opportunity.
