We hate to keep going after the refs for what happened in Saturday's matchup between the then No. 6 Tennessee Vols and No. 11 Georgia Bulldogs, but come on, it was a clown show. There were several missed calls that had fans irate.
The long list included a clear as day false start on Georgia quarterback Carson Beck in the second half. We saw it, you saw it, heck, even Kirby Smart probably saw it. Everyone did other than the officials, which is totally inexcusable.
In the end, Georgia posted a 31-17 victory over the Vols and we can't blame the team in stripes for Tennessee falling to 8-2 on the year. However, can someone please explain how this isn't a false start? On which planet is not a five-yard penalty on the QB:
Tennessee Vols fans remain furious with the refs after the loss to Georgia
So, before the ball is snapped, Beck falls backwards, takes two steps and all is right in the world? Apparently, Georgia could do no wrong in Athens that night. The refs were perfectly fine with this play, on top of missing several others on the night.
Remember the bogus facemask penalty that essentially gifted the Bulldogs a free touchdown? Of course you do. In a huge SEC game like this, everyone hated the fact that the zebras had such a big say in how things played out.
Josh Heupel was not happy with the officials after the game. Can you blame him? Nope, not one bit. Following the loss, Tennessee's CFP dreams are a bit up in the air, but from our chair, they still deserve to be among the Top 12 teams in the country. They'll have revenge on their minds next time they take on Georgia too, as the Bulldogs, in frustrating fashion, continue to dominate the rivalry.
