Is QB1 season on the way for Joey Aguilar with the Tennessee Vols? If so, the hard work and grind will start for him soon. In some big news for Josh Heupel and the Tennessee football program, Austin Price of On3 is reporting Aguilar will make his way to Knoxville on Monday.

This is of course sensational news for the Vols, as Aguilar recently finished things up in the class room at App State to open the door for him to join the SEC powerhouse. Originally, a lot of us thought we'd have to wait until June to see him join the squad, but that's not going to be the case after all.

Tennessee QB Joey Aguilar is officially joining the program on Monday

Aguilar will have his new teammates show him around campus and what not, but don't be surprised if he gets to his new apartment and immediately starts studying the playbook. Heck, we wouldn't be shocked if he puts on his cleats and starts throwing the ball around at Neyland Stadium.

The expectations are high for Aguilar, who previously signed with UCLA to take over as the Bruins' starting quarterback. However, once Nico Iamaleava entered the transfer portal and signed with the Westwood side, the door opened for Aguilar to leave town and compete for a different job.

Heupel reached out to him and the rest is now history. Aguilar is expected to battle with Jake Merklinger for the Week 1 starting spot, with Urban Meyer of all people putting pressure on Heupel to make a quick decision. Hey, we won't disagree with that.

However, plenty of signs are pointing to Aguilar winning the job and then working overtime to lead the Vols to a memorable campaign. Tennessee reached the CFP for the first time ever in 2024, with some people thinking the Nico exit will prevent a repeat performance from going down. Aguilar is 100 percent going to have something to say about that, though, assuming he runs the offense from start to finish in '25.
