Thursday night was far from enjoyable for Vols fans, as Colton Hood and Jermod McCoy both slipped out of round one after both being projected to go there. In this draft, Colton Hood was viewed as a late first-round pick, but he went undrafted on opening night. Scouts now project him as one of the top players available heading into Round Two.
Tennessee fans react as Jermod McCoy slips down the NFL Draft
Given that he is one of the best players available at a very important position, NFL fan bases are making it known that they want Hood on their team. Giants fans view him as a player to watch at pick No. 37 overall, with Joseph Anderson saying, "The cornerback group needs to add some elite talent, and with one of the best corners in the draft still on the board, the Giants could find themselves in the perfect spot to land him. Hood excels as an aggressive press-man corner, exactly what new Giants defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson wants in his new system."
This is a great assessment of Colton Hood. He’s a strong press-man corner, and the biggest thing is he fits what the New York Giants want to do defensively. Getting him at No. 37 would be a steal.
San Francisco 49ers fans want Colton Hood, too
The San Francisco 49ers also want to be in the mix for Hood. John Porter said, "Another good athlete with plenty of ceiling to develop, Hood could be a Lenoir-lite on the other side of the defensive backfield, and with coaching from the likes of Jerry Gray and Matt Eberflus, could have an excellent ceiling. In many ways, Hood reminds me of the many bruising corners the Seattle Seahawks used to roll out onto the field during the Legion of Boom era: a nasty attitude, disruptive hands, and solid against the run."
I love the comparison between Hood and the legion of boom. San Fran would be a great place for Hood to land, too, as Raheem Morris is a great defensive mind, and we wouldn't be forced into a situation where he needs to be a star right away.
As much as Thursday stunk tonight, the NFL Draft should be much more enjoyable tonight. I'm excited to see where Hood, McCoy, Chris Brazzell II, and potentially Joshua Josephs end up.
