Ohio State trying to steal 5-star Tennessee commit is bad news for Josh Heupel
We are inching closer to the Early Signing Period getting here and Tennessee Volunteers head coach Josh Heupel is looking to put the finishing touches on an unreal class. However, there are now plenty of worried fans out there when it comes to 5-star commit David Sanders Jr.
Sanders has long been a verbal pledge to Tennessee and people are fired up about his potential in Knoxville moving forward. However, according to On3's Steve Wiltfong, Sanders is in Columbus for College GameDay to take a visit with the Ohio State Buckeyes. Yeah, this is not good:
5-star OT David Sanders Jr. visiting Ohio State has Tennesse Vols fans worried
Sanders is the prized commit on the '25 list for Heupel. He's the No. 1 OT in the country and No. 5 player nationally according to the 247Sports Composite. He's got an NFL future written all over him, there's no doubt about that.
However, with Ryan Day and his coaches making a late move to try and land him, could a flip be on the way? There are countless people in Knoxville who are hoping that's not going to happen. Sanders committed to Tennessee in August, doing so over a boatload of other offers.
Throughout his recruitment, Sanders, a 6-6, 290-pounder from North Carolina, picked up scholarships from Tennessee, Ohio State, Georgia, Clemson, Nebraska and many others. Sanders took his official to Knoxville on June 14 and followed that up by going to Ohio State the following weekend.
Now, he's back in Columbus for one final visit before he puts the pen to paper during the Early Signing Period, which will arrive on Dec. 4. There have been few signs that Sanders is wavering in his commitment to Tennessee, but this OSU visit sure has a lot of people talking. We should know more about Sanders' future soon, but for now, he remains Tennessee-bound - Ohio State and Day are hoping to change that.
