There was certainly a lot of drama here, but in the end, the Kansas City Chiefs have gotten things over the line with a Tennessee football great. That'd be Trey Smith, easily one of the best offensive lineman in the game and a true Vol For Life.

This offseason, there's been a lot written about Smith and the Chiefs, as the two sides were unable to make any movement in terms of a new contract. That all changed on Tuesday, with breaking news arriving that the two sides have agreed to a four-year, $92 million deal. Wow.

With this new deal, Smith becomes the highest-paid interior offensive lineman in NFL history. Talk about a major payday for him. Tennessee fans are fired up for him and they're not alone there. As soon as the info was released, the one and only Patrick Mahomes let everyone know how happy he was about things too:

Can you blame Mahomes for being fired up right now? Absolutely not. The last thing anyone wanted to see was for Smith to be a camp holdout and potentially take things into the regular season. He was 100 percent deserving of his monster raise and it has come before the panic button was hit.

Smith is an elite playmaker in the trenches and he does a spectacular job of keeping Mahomes on his feet. While the Chiefs fell short of posting a three-peat, losing to the Eagles in the Super Bowl this past winter, that doesn't mean this team isn't built to push for another title this campaign.

The Chiefs have all the pieces in place to take home the Lombardi Trophy for the third time in four years. Mahomes is obviously the straw that stirs the drink for everything, but Smith is a key part on offense and he's a true difference-maker. It took longer than expected, but he now has 94 million reasons to be excited about his future with the AFC powerhouse.
