You just had a feeling this news was coming sooner rather than later. From the moment the Tennessee football team put an offer on the table for 2027 linebacker JP Peace, it was clear that it was going to be tough for anyone to take down the Vols in this recruiting battle.

Not only is Peace the grandson of Tennessee legend Phillip Fulmer, but his father Robert suited up in orange from 2000-2003. On Monday, Peace decided that enough was enough and it was time to shut down his recruitment. In doing so, he has given Josh Heupel the news he was hoping for:

2027 LB JP Peace has committed to Tennessee football over 10 other offers

Peace is a standout for Knoxville West High, which is a stone's throw away from the Tennessee campus. He grew up watching the Vols and he has gone to countless games. Come on, this was always going to be an easy decision for him.

That didn't stop other programs from recruiting him and hoping to change his mind. Throughout his process, the 6-3, 215-pounder picked up offers from Tennessee, App State, Florida State, Kentucky, Maryland, Virginia Tech and a handful of others.

The focus for Heupel and Co. remains on the 2026 class - Tennessee holds 10 known commitments thus far. However, Heupel hasn't forgotten about youngsters who are all set to be high school juniors this fall. With Peace now on board, he becomes the first pledge for '27.

That's certainly going to be an honor for him, but he'll now work to do some recruiting of his own to help Tennessee build the class around him. There's still a lot of time until the Early Signing Period arrives in December 2026 for Peace to make things official with UT, but given his family history, it feels like the Tennessee faithful don't have to worry one bit about a potential flip coming down the road.
