Al Wilson was drafted by the Denver Broncos with the 31st overall pick in 1999. He started most of the 1999 season as a linebacker as a rookie. He was a Pro Bowler in five of his eight seasons and named an All-Pro in his final two seasons in the league.
He finished his NFL career with 723 total tackles, 21.5 sacks, eight forced fumbles, five interceptions, and one touchdown. He was one of the most-feared linebackers in college and a big part of Tennessee's 1998 national championship team. He carried that fear to the NFL, being considered one of the scariest linebackers in the league during his eight career.
Wilson's career ended prematurely due to neck issues in his final two seasons. His time with the Broncos did not end positively, which could be why the franchise has held off honoring him as one of the best linebackers in franchise history.
